On arriving it was discovered that the curtains of one of the upstairs bedrooms had ignited from cm tact with a lighted candle, and that the flames had spread to the roof. Owing to the valuable assistance rendered by the next door neighbour, Mr Baker, in keeping the flames in check at the onset, it wa3 only necessary for the Brigade to use the hand pump, and by this means they quickly extinguished the fire, which had begun to spread to some hay in the gable.
