At the next meeting of the Trades and Labour Council a motion will be brought forward to the effect that, if a suitable hall can be engaged at a time to suit the convenience of the Premier, an invitation should be sent to that gentleman to address a public meeting. Mr Charles H. The Secretary to the Post OSce has given notice that on and after the Ist of November duplicate copies of received telegrams (viz., those delivered to the public) will not bs kept at any telegraph office. Persons therefore requiring repetition or correction of a message will have to produce at the counter the message delivered to them by the Department. The Gazette return of immigration to and emigrativin from the Colony of New Zealand during the month of September shows that '93S persons arrived in and 1238 left the Colony. The arrivals from .New South "Wales numbered 435, and the departures for that colony 801 ; the arrivals from Victoria were 226, and the departnres for that colony 203. At Auckland the arrivals numbered 279 and the departures 304 ; at Wellington the numbers were 398 and 571 ; and at Invercargill 255 and 276 respectively. The Government steamer Hinomoa returned from her vidt to the West Coast Sounds on Sunday at 1 p.m. She left here on.tha Ist, and called at Stephen’s Island, Farewell Spit, West Wanganui Inlet, West-' port, Bruce Bay, Jackson’s Bay, Big Bav, Martin’s Bar, and reached Milford Sound on the 4th. She landed a large quantity of cargo and 17 prisoners. The men at the Sounds, we are informed, have made excellent progress with their work of road rnak’ng, and they have enjoyed good health. The majority of the prisoners, we are also informed, have behaved themselves splendidly. The Hinomoa brought away the men who have been employed at the Sound for some time, and whose sentences have nearlyexpired. Their places will be taken by the men she took down, who are all long sentence prisoners. The Hinemoa started on the return trip on Tuesday last, called at Westport for coal, Stephen's Island, Tory Channel, and French Pass, and arrived here as stated.
