THE GOVERN HEfIT SANATORIUM. ROTORUA, NEW ZEALAND. ROTORUA. THIS wonderful district is unparalleled in the known world for the number and variety of its Thermal Springs. As a health resort its popularity is rapidly increasing, and that entirely on its own merits, as hitherto nothing has been done in the way ot advertising. Patients suffering from Chronic, Articular and Muscular Rheumatism, Gout, Rheumatic Gout, Skin Diseases, Sciatica, Lumbago, Neuralgia, Nervous Exhaustion, Uterine Ailments, and tardy convalescence from acute diseases may rely upon obtaining immense relief, and in the majority of cases a complete cure. THE PRIEST’S BATH. This is a strongly acid, aluminous, sulphur water, acting as a powerful skin stimulant Hot and cold showers and douches are provided, and oomfortably enclosed dressing rooms MADAME RACHAEL’S BATH. This celebrated Spring is a SSHne Water with Silicates, and has an Alkaline reaction. The water is also used internally for its benefioial action on the kidneys. THE BLUE BATH. This is the largest natural warm swimming bath in the southern hemisphere. * affords rheumatic invalids a means of taking painless exercise, which they highly appreciate. THE SULPHUR VAPOUR BATH. This is a natural hot vapour, highly charged with sulphur gases, conducted into a properly constructed chest, in which the patient sits, while a stream of palpable sulphur is being constantly deposited on the shin. THE ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT. This department is replete with the most modern appliances for oarrying out the various forms of medical electrical treatment in their entirety. In cases of Rheumatism, Lumbago, Sciatica, Gout, Skin Diseases, Nervous Exhaustion, and Disorders of the Digestive Organs, &c., the curative properties of these Springs are becoming better known and realised, and there are numerous instances of a course of baths having proved efficacious. The Springs are situated in the Amuri Country, 90 miles north of Christchurch. Visitors from Christchurch can reach the Springs in a day. The first 70 miles is by rail to Culverden, and the last 20 by coach on a good road. There are two Bath-houses, containing baths, waiting rooms, &c., for the accommodation of visitors and patients, under the aare of a keeper and matron. The sum ot £2700 has been spent in providing these baths, buildings, &0., and planting and improving the grounds surrounding them. There are Springs of hot and cold waters, and the same qualities and healing properties are to be found in both. Visitors and patients are increasing in number every year. For the twelve months ended last March over 6300 baths had been given. The price charged for a single bath is Is, but a reduction in the price is made on taking a number of tickets. At present there are two Accommodation Houses, one at Jollies’ Pass, two and a half miles from the baths, which can provide for from 20 to 30 persons ; and the other at Jaok’s Pass, with accommodation for from 16 to 20 persons. The number of visitors now xrarrants more accommodation, and before very long it is probable a first-olass hotel will be erected within a short distance from the baths. TO OUR READERS.
