SHELLY BAY DISASTER.
CAPTAIN FALCONER CHARGED WITH MANi-L AUG HTER. In connection with the Shelly Bay disaster, Mr Jellicoe, acting on behalf of Mrs Heighton (widow of one of the victims), on Wednesday morning laid an information against Captain Falconer for manslaughter. The text of the information is as follows : “The information of Eliza Heighton, taken upon oath this 22nd day of April, 1891, before me, Wilson Elttb john, E q., one of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace in and for the said Colony, who snith that she bath just cause to suspect and doth suspect that John Falconer, of Wellington, on the sth day of March, 1891, feloniously did slay and kill one Walter Horroeks HeLhfcon against the peace of our Lady the Queen, being an indictable offence.” The ease is set down for hearing at the Resideut Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday next, but as Mr Robinson, R.M., has to go to the Wairarapa, it is not likely that he will be able to take the case, and Mr C. C. Graham, R.M., will probably hear it. Among those subpoenaed to appear at the hearing is tho Hon R. J. Soddon, Minister for Defence, who will be asked to produce the depositions.
