GREAT FIRE IN CHICAGO.
(by electric telegraph—copyright.) DESTRUCTION OF THE DIME MUSEUM. NARROW ESCAPE OF THE INMATES. (per press association.) New York, April 13. Smythe’s furniture warehouse and the Dime Museum, in Chicago, have been destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at 2,000,000d01. Eight hundred firemen prevented the flames from spreading to adjoining buildings. The audience in the Haymarket Theatre of the Dime Museum escaped in safety from the burning building, through policemen maintaining order with loaded revolvers. Many of the wild animals and monsters contained in the museum perished in the flames.
