The estimated American visible supply of wheat is 40,900,000 bushels. Lonoon, March 26. Bank of England returns published today show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be L 14,932,000 ; the proportion of reserve to liabilities is 34‘60. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 107 ; 31c do., 97 i. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 41s 9d, firm; for New Zealand wheat-, off coast, sellers are asking 40j 6d, but buyers refuse to give more than 39s 6d. Canterbury mutton, 4§d ; Wellington ditto, 4§d ; Canterbury lamb, 6£d. Beef —Forequarters, 3 7-16 d, hindquarters, 4fd. Kauri Gum—Fine selected transparent, LlO 10s ; good hard amber, L 6 15s; pickings, 38s 6d. There is no demand for hemp, and a’l shipments which weie offered for sale were bought ir.. South Australian wheat, 435, firm ; Victorian ditto, 425, firm. Sugar—Best German beet, 14s, steady ; Java, 15s 9d. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 435. London, March 28. Arrived—Ship, Zealandia from Auckland (November 30). London, March 30. Arrived Ships Strathgryfe, from Lyttelton (December 16) ; Auckland, from Lyttelton (December 20) ; Waipa, from Timaru (December 15), all well. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable message from their London office, dated 26th instant ;
Frozen Meat— Market quiet. Price of beef has declined Jd per lb, and lamb jfd per lb since last report. Price of mutton is easier. Market for New Zealand hemp has a downward tendency.
