RETRENCHMENT.
The Government, we understand, sees its way to the following farther redactions : Land Transfer Department. Con tingencies, £1000; Salaries, £I7OO. Of the latter reductions none are in Wellington. Department of Justice. —About £SOOO, most of which will be in the matter of “Contingencies.” None of the salary redactions will take effect in Wellington. Government Insurance. Changes of various kinds are expected to produce a reduction of £SOOO. In the Native Department. —There will be reductions also, but the amount has not yet been calculated, the matter having not yet been discussed fully’ by the Cabinet. No particulars of the salary reductions are obtainable, as the Government has determined to give notice to the officers before making details public.
