At a special meeting of R. J. Fitton’s creditors held in Masterton on Friday last, the question of the disposal of a draft for £2CO received by tbe debtor was dealt with. It was deolded, in accordance with a previous arrangement that £IOO should be applied to the creditors and a dividend at once declared, and that the balance of £IOO should be left in the hands of the debtor. Tbe dividend (according to the Wairarapa Star) will amount to about 6s in the pound. An inquest was held at the morgue on Monday before the district Coroner, Mr H. W. Robinson, R.M., on the body of E. J. Develir, who died on board the s.s. Tekoa in Cook Strait on Sunday afternoon. Mr Ramsnj' 1 was chosen foreman of the jury. Evidence was given by tho engineer and purser of the steamer and Dr Tripe, who made a post mortem examination. The last mentioned witness said the deceased was suflering from a severe affliction of the heart, and a verdict was returned in accordance with tho medical evidence.

The ordinary meeting cf the Wellington District School Commissioners was held on Monday morning. Present—Messrs J. R. Blair (Chairman), C. P. Powles, and J. Duthio, M.H.R. The annual report stated that tho personnel of the Boord, with the exception of Mr Duthie, M.H.R., was the same as previously. During the past year 35 reserves were let, producing £334 13s lid. The Commissioners had just concluded a series of sales, at which they had let 25 sections at a total of £233, and. there were enquiries for other reserves laid out, but not yet vested iu the Commissioners. Attention was called to the fact that none of this revenue was available for secondary education, and the Government were asked to take the matter into their consideration and set aside endowments as had boen contemplated by the Education Act 1877. The report was then adopted. Permission was given to certain settlors in the Wairarapa North to use sections 1 and 2, Wainui-Oroua, for driving stock. A sum of £llOO was ordered to he distributed to tho Education Board as follows :—Wellington, £715 3s Id ; Wanganui, £384 lls lid. Accounts amounting to £ll3 9s Sd having been passed for payment, the meeting adjourned.
