(per press association.] Sydney, February 26. Allingham, another officer of the English, Scottish and Australian Chartered Bank, has been arrested for embezzlement. The defalcations are about L 3,500. Sydney, March 2. The cable steamer Recorder sails for Nelson in a few days. Sydney, March 3. Mr Pound, the metallurgist for whom a warrant was issued on the charge of stealing platinum, valued at L6OOO, the property of the Otway Ranges Platinum Company, has been arrested. The Rev Collie, of Newtown, has been elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, and the Rev Brown, late Secretary to the Foreign Missions, has been elected President of the Wesleyan Conference. Melbourne, February 28. The Otway Platinum Company has received information by cable to the effect that the consignment of platinum ore sent to England is valueless. The news has occasioned great excitement amongst shareholders. Adelaide, March 2. Mr Jenkins succeeds the late Mr Bews as Minister of Education. A woman named Watson, living at Jumbiwie, murdered her child, and committed suicide by cutting her throat. The cause was insanity.
