THE GORGE RAILWAY.

THE RAiLWAY COMMISSIONERS AND NELSON BROS. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Woodville, March 3. A largely attended public meeting was held here last night to consider the opening of the Gorge line and the difficulty between the Railway Commissioners and Nelson Bros. A committee wa3 appointed to arrange to receive the Minister of Public Works (the Hon R. J. Seddon, who has intimated his intention of being present) and Ministerial Party, and convey them in a carriage through the town preceded by a band, and entertain them at luncheon. Regarding Nelson Bios, and the Commissioners, a letter was read from the firm Btating that their presont trade was worth £IO,OOO a year to the railway, and the vVoodville works would increase it by £2OOO a year to start with. Owing to the Commissioners refusing to entertain their reasonable proposals they had submitted fresh proposals to meet the objections of the Commissioners, but as this would mean increased cost of laying down, connecting, and working, it would result in increased charges on the farmers. Much indignation was expressed at the of the Commwßionerß to bo important an in'

dustry, which would bxing much increased traffic to the railway, and a deputation wa3 appointed to wait cn the Minister of Public Work 3 aud represent the matter to him. The suspension of the Commissioners was advocated. The deputation was also instructed to represent to the Minister the inefficiency of the proposed train servloe after opening the Gorge line, and to en. deavour to secure a continuation of the daily train to and from Napier as hitherto. DATE OF OPENING. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Palmerston North, March 3.
