Mr Bonny states that he seized the drugs and medicine chest to prevent Major Barttelot making an improper use of them. Barttelot bit a woman in the cheek, at which the natives became incensed, and were only prevented from attacking them by Bonny’s exertions. Barttelot was accustomed to prod the natives savagely with his lance, and he killed a boy with kicks. Jamieson, according to Bonny, actually confessed that he had purchased a girl for I2s 6d and a handkerchief, for the purpose of getting up a cannibal feast, which he .might witness and sketch. The collision reported to have taken plsce between the steamers Taunton and Norham Castle is incorrect. The collision took place between two trains at Taunton in Somersetshire, one of which was con' veying from Plymouth to London the passengers who had arrived by the s.s. Norhatn Castle from the Cape. Six of the ten persons who were killed were burnt to death, owing to the carriages catching tire. TREATMENT OF ORES. London, November 11. Mr Knox, Secretary of the Broken Hill Proprietary Silvermining Company, states that Seahrig’s process solves the treatment of Barrier carbonate ores. THE KOCH CURE. Berlin, November 12. The Emperor William has presented Dr Koch with the sum of L 50,000, an amount which is equal to that required for inaugurating the institute for the cure of consumptive patients.
