AUCKLAND LABOUR DEMONSTRATION.
(per press association.) Auckland, November 10. The Eight Hours Demonstration, postponed from Tuesday week, was held to-day. The procession of the various trade societies started from Lower Queen street and marched to the Domain Cricket Ground, where sports were held. The procession, which was watched by a great number of people, included the following Societies : Seamen’s Union (about 200 men) ; Tailors’ Union (about 100); Bootmakers’ Union (130) j Painters’ Union (about 30); Wharf Labourers and Coastal Seamen (about 120) ; Mill Hands and Bushmen (about 60); Typographical Society (50); Railway Employes and Engineers (30); Wharf Carters (30) ; Carpenters and Joiners (50); Engineers and Ironworkers (40); Federated Butchers 130); Bakers and Pastry Cooks (35); Gas Works Employes (58) ; Gum Storemen (45); Ship, wrights (40); Sailmakers (20). The Typographical Society made an excellent display. They had thfee trollies well decorated with printing machines at work, and amongst the printers was a lad as the printer’s devil appropriately dressed, All the Unions carried banners, and many of these were of admirable finish, In the procession were four bands.
