ARREST OF A MAYOR FOR ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT.
(PER press association.) Invercargill, August 20. A sensation was caused at the Borough of Gore this afternoon by tho arrest of SimsoH Simson, mayor of the borough, on a charge of embezzlement at the instance of Elaworth, a late partner, who alleged that Simson has appropriated partnership cheques for £351. Accused was brought before the court and remanded for seven days, witnesses net being forward. Bail was allowed, and wm forthcoming. Elsworth joined the aoonsed about two years ago, having come from Victoria. The partnership was dissolved by Elsworth last week.
