At a meeting of shareholders of the New Zealand Shipping Company, which was poorly attended, it was decided to write off L2 per share, and also that each share should carry one vote. Sir J. Gorst stated this would enable the Company to pay a dividend. The Speaker of the House of Commons is disposed to agree with Mr T. Healey’s objections that the Government proposal to let the licensing fund accumulate is not sufficiently in compliance with the Budget Act. It is expected the Government will abandon the whole of the licensing clauses. A conversazione at the Imperial Institute was attended by three thousand people. Lord G. Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, in reply to a question, said that the comments of the colonial press on the composition of the Egeria Court Martial were not justified. At a meeting attended by 700 wharf labourers, arrangements were discussed for the anticipated strike.
