AN UNREASONABLE DELAY.
(per press association.) Manaia, Jane 21. The case of onsfcable Gillespie is exciting considerable indignation. About nine weeks ago Mr Justice C.molly imputed perjury against Gillespie during the hearing of a cattle-stealing case, whereupon the latter applied to the Minister of. Justice for a full inquiry and repeated his request. No answer coming, and the constable being continued in his position here as clerk of the Court and constable, the Town Board aud the Justices urged the Minister to hold an inquiry on the 27th May. He replied that he had several days previously directed that an inquiry should be held before the Resident Magistrate. The constable was then suspended, but forbidden to leave the township. Nearly four weeks have elapsed and the constable has not yet had any intimation of what is going to be done. The local press considers that a great wrong is inflicted by the delay.
