THE LABOUR QUESTION.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, March 14. The carters’ strike has been settled so far as the men employed by Mr Craig are concerned, To day two delegates from the men on strike interviewed Messrs Winstone and Craig, both of whom stipulated that the men whom they bad employed should apologise to them for having left their services without notice, before they would consider anything the strikers had to say, Mr Craig’s men forthwith gave this apology, and were at onoe re-employed at the wages which they had demanded two guineas per week instead of 36s as before. They will resume work to-morrow morning, Messrs Winstones’ men will interview their late employers to-morrow, and it is probable that they will be taken into service again on tho terms given by Mr Craig to his men. March 16. The carters’ strike was finally settled to-day, when Winstone'Bros yielded to the demand of their men, and took four of them back into their employ at two guineas a week, beside raising the wages of those who had assisted them during the difficulty.
