GOLDFIELD RIGHTS.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, February 13
Greast interestis manifested in Coromandel regarding the right of the miners to go on the Kauri Timber Company’s estate. The matter was brought befo r e the Warden on Tuesday, during the hearing of the application of Thomas Snell for a lease of some ground. Mr Little gave evidence that Mr Mackay, as Commissioner, had declared Wkangapoua Native lands a goldfield in 1865, and told them to get miners’ rights and go to work, which they had done, be aud others ge.tting the prospectors’ claim from which 600 or 600 oz of gold was taken. Signatures have been obtained to a petition to the Government to get this land opened to miners, and money is to be contributed if necessary to fight the question out. The Timber Compauy have, however, remained for a long time undisturbed as regards their absolute posses-ion of the land. Farther litigation is postponed till March.
