REPORTED GOLD DISCOVERY

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, February 11. Captain Beardon, of the steamer Mohaka, brings news from Awakino to the effect that Rogers’ prospecting party, who have been several weeks in the Awakino district, have discovered what they consider is payable gold. The party consists of two experienced diggers and several Natives who own the land. From information to hand it appears that the party sank a shaft, and had not gone more than 3ft when a leader ,a small reef running off a greater one) was struck, and this showed splendid gold indications. Beyond this no further news is to hand.
