MESSRS LAERY AND CO.’S NEW PREMISES.

Messrs Laery and Co., the well-known auctioneers, have recently taken possession of the premises in Willis-street which were occupied for many years by Mr Edward Pearce, ar.d which have undergone extensive alterations to adapt them to the particular business for which they are now used. The main entrance is by wide folding doors from Willisstreet into a large fruit and produce and auction mart 55ft x 100 ft. Immediately inside and to the left of the main entrance are Mr Laery’s and the public offices, the former having a private entrance from Chew’s-lane. The mart itself, which, as the measurements will show, is a very commodious building, is to be used for auction and storage purposes, and there are cart entrances to it from Chew’s-lane and from the yard at the back (two). The far end of the apartment gives accommodation for storage of a great quantity of grain, &c., both on the ground-floor and on a raised platform. The.yard, which is 20ft by 111 ft, is to be used for horse sales and also for unloading and loading produce. It is Messrs Laery s intention to establish what will be of great convenience to both country and city people, namely, regular market sales of produce, &c. Farmers will be allowed, on payment of a very small fee, to take their carts into the yard and there dispose of their wares for themselves. In this way facilities will be given to residents in the city to purchase the produce of the country in fresh condition, and without having to make up the profits of any intermediary agent. The firm will, of course, continue to prosecute their own business, and with the object of making their establishment; a regular depot for the sale of fruit imported from the Islands, farm and dairy produce, grain, potatoes, and other commodities, will hold sales on certain stated days. Horse sales will also be held regularly. Upon these lines Messrs Leary and Co. will carry on business in their new and well situated premises. The auction room and other apartments, it should be mentioned, are beautifully clean and well appointed. The necessary alterations have been excellently effected by Mr J. Russell.
