MR DILLON’S FAREWELL.

(PUR PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) Auckland, January 24. The Committee for the reception of the Irish delegates, and a number of other friends, assembled to-night at the Academy of Music for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr John Dillon, who leaves on Monday for San Francisco. In replying to the toast of his health, Mr Dillon said that, though he bad been warned by many friends not to come to this Colony, the mission of the delegatee had been a mag. nificent success in New Zealand, and in proportion to the number of Irish people here more had been contributed than in any of the Australian colonies to the cause he represented. Mr Dillon spoke of the letter recently received from Mr Chamberlain as a ludicrous example of the way in which false news was sent Homo. He also, in proposing the toast of the Committee, praised the Auckland people for having contributed the largest sum received from any part of New Zealand. Auckland, January 27. Mr John Dillon left for San Francisco by the Zealanaia to-day. He was heartily cheered by a number of friends as the steamer moved off from the wharf. The total contributions in this district for the Irish evicted tenants’ fund now reaches £SIS.
