Co’s sa Mawhera left Greymouth at 9.45 am on Sunday and experienced fine weather till arrival here at 2.30 pm next day. She returned same night. The U.S.S. Co’s ss Wanaka left Lyttelton at 10 pm, and experienced fine weather till arrival here at 2 pm on Tuesday. She sailed lor New Plymouth and Onehunga same night. The U.S.S. Co’s bs Wakatipu from Timaru and Lyttelton, having left the latter port at 4.30 pm on Monday, arrived here at 9 am on Tuesday. Fine weather was experienced throughout. She sailed for Sydney same oisbti • The U.S.S. Co’s bs Grafton left Dunedin on the 23rd, Timaru and Akaroa on the 24tb, Lyttelton at 3 pm on Monday, and arrived here at 9 am on Tuesday. Fine weather was experienced throughout.. She sailed for Nelson and Westport same night. ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP WAIROA, FROM LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Wairoa, Captain Bunyard, arrived in harbour at II o’clook Sunday night from London, after a passage of 99 days. She left London on the 16th May, experienced very foergy weather in the Channel up to sighting the Lizards on the 23rd ; had fresh northerly winds with variable weather up to the 27th; then experienced fine northerly-winds up to 3rd June; light variable airs and calms to the 15th. Caught the north-east trades inlat. 23deg. north, which were very unsteady throughout, and carried them to 8 deg. north, when light variable airs were carried to 3deg. north. . Moderate southerly and south-easterly winds were experienced to July Ist, when the ship was in lono. 38deg. west, having crossed the Equator on June the 20fch, in long. 29deg. west. Moderate and variable winds were experienced to long. 21 west 37deg. south, no south-east trades being met with. Passed the meridian of the Cape on July 21st in latitude 43deg. south, and strong westerly winds and - squally weather were experienced to 138 deg. east. Fine weather was experienced; to sighting the southern coast of Tasmania ou the 18th inst. From thence to passing Cape Farewell on Saturday experienced northerly winds with sleet Bqualls, Passed Stephens Island at 9

am on Sunday ; took the pilot at 8 o’clock on Sunday night, and arrived as above.

ARRIVAL OF THE BARQUE BRIER HOLME, FROM LIVERPOOL.

The barque Brier Holme, Captain Johnstone, arrived in harbour at 0 o’clock on Monday afternoon from Liverpool, after a passage of 102 days. She'left Liverpool on May 16, and experienced variable weather to crossing the Equator on June 17 in long. 27deg W. Met no S\V..Trades, but experi euced light winds aud calms till passing the meridian of the Cape on July 16, in lat 39deg 90min S. Moderate winds with heavy rain were met with till July 31, when a heavy N\V gale was encountered. A tremendous sea broke '•'* on board arid carried away all the fixings around the wheel, smashing the ship’s binnacle and compass. The skylight was smashed in, and the master was severely injured in his shoulder and left arm, which will necessitate his having medical attendance. A passenger by the vessel uamed Mr Mitchell also sustained ail injury, having, had one of his fingers, smashed. One of the crew alsc met with a mishap. During the height of the gale the barque behaved splendidly. From thence to passing Cape Farewell, at 8 pm on the 25tb, experienced variable weather. She arrived off the Heads at 1 pm Monday, and the Maca went out and towed her to the anohoiage, where she arrived as above. The vessel comes into port v in capital trim, notwithstanding her rough passage. Messrs Johnston and Co. are agents for the barque.
