(per press association. ) Dunedin, August 22. The news from the Nenthorne reefs is most encouraging.- The prospects of all tho mines on which work is done are improving almost daily. In the Justice claim one of the latest discoveries, a piece of stone taken from a leader, on being crushed, yielded at the rate of 640 zto tbe ton. The leader was 6in in width. A piece taken from the Eureka reef crushed at the rate of 84oz to the ton, and the prospects from the Rose and Shamrock wont 60oz to the ton. The prospect from the newly discovered reef at Waitaiiuna, which, on crushing over two tons gave a return of 26dwts, seems insignificant alongside the others. The Big Beech Dredging Company, Shotover (Sew Hoy’s claim) have decided to offer their interests in the claim to the public, in order to put more dredges on. August 24. News has been received from Tinkers of the discovery of a rich lead of alluvial gold. The piospeotor struck good gold at a depth of 140fc below the sluicing level, but the stuff became richer as he went down. At 150 ft he got propects of 2oz to the ton. The lead has been traced a considerable distance, and claims are now pegged off from Duustan Creek almost to Clyde. There is considerable excitement in the locality.
