LOSS OF A CUTTER.
[per press association.] Nelson, July 19. The cutter Goldseeker, which, left Nelson for the Croixelles on Tuesday night, was caught in a squall off Walker's Bay and sank. Two men on board had to swun tor Bhore. One of them, a Swede named Brankmau, succeeded in landing, but could find no trace of the other, Joseph Spiers. Brankman, being a stranger, did not know the nearest settlement, and experienced great difficulty in reaching the Maori pa at Wakapuaka. He started at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, and being overtaken by night, slept on oue of the surrounding hills quite without shelter. The night was sharp and the frost severe, and his clothes froze on him. At daybreak he started again, and reached the Maori settlement at o o’clock in the afternoon in a state of utter collapse. He was brought into Nelson this morning and taken to the hospital, no I race of the other man having been found. It '3 possible that he lauded and woufc to an outlying pa near the Croixelles, It is impossible to recover the cutter, which is lying in 16 fathoms of water.
