Deipiti the rough nature of the weather experienced all through the run, the social side of the voyage has been very pleasant. Several members of the ship's company had, noleus volens, an introduction to the delightful art of “ Toboganing ” on the decks during the rough weather. The original passenger list included Sir Morel! Mackenzie, son and two daughters, and Pro. Bryce, M.P., who were landed at Teneriffe seeking health and pleasure ; also, Searelle’s new Opera Company, including Mr Searelle, Mr and Mrs Verdi (Miss Emily Melville), Miss Florence Bankhardt (prima donna), Miss Ellen Bankhardt (premie danseuse), with twelve ladies of the chorus and string band, who wero landed at Capetown, en route for Kimberley and tour in the Transvaal, &c. After Teneriffe, the weather improving, Cinderella dances were frequently enjoyed. On 24th April Captain Findlay and the officers gave a fancy dress ball ou the quarter-deck, which, by the aid of the electric light and the gay bunting, combined with the pretty costumes of the fair sex, presented a delightful and fairy-like scene. The enforced stay at the Cape was much appreciated by the passengers, and every advantage was taken for eight-seeing, including the departure of Sir Hercules Robinson for England. Mrs Allured (a second saloon passenger, bound to Port Chalmers) gave birth to a daughter on the 14th inst., and happily no deaths or serious casualty ocourred during the voyage. An athletic competition was brought off i i the tropics, -but otherwise outdoor sports received but meagre attention, owing to causes previously stated.
