(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, May 1. At the meeting of the Council oi Governors of the Nelson College' to-day, it was decided to abolish the contribution of £lO per annum now given to Nelson and Marlborough pupils, and to reduce the fees for boarding, in both colleges to £4O, irrespective of distance or provincial districts, tku3 putting pupils from all parts of the Colony on equal terms. Dunedin, May 1. The University session opened to-night by Professor Gibbons delivering an inaugural address. It was understood, that the students, out of respect to the memory of the late Professor Brown, would have refrained from the usual demonstration, but if any sound decision was arrived at it was not kept, and the noise and interruption was as bad, if not worse thaD usual. At the meeting of the University Council a report was brought up by the committee of the School of Mines. It was resolved that the committee be authorised to approach tho Government with a view of obtaining a grant for an educational teacher and for six mining scholarships (three for each Island) ; also, to approach the New Zealand University in the hope of securing its aid in obtaining these matters,
