WESTPORT NEWS.
(FROM OUR OWN non RESPONDENT.) Westport, April 23, Nothing further has transpired with respect to the explosion at Cape Foulwind. Constables Jefferies, and Philpot have bemi stationed there, and the assistance of Detective Quinn has been called in. The residents of Cape Foulwind have circulated a notice offering £3O reward for information that will lead to the discoveiy of the perpetrators of the outrage. Mr Bannatyne also offers £2O. A police station is to be temporarily established at Cape Foulwind under the present charge of Constable Jefferies, of Charleston. Constables Robinson and Swain, from Wellington, will be stationed there. A man named Alexander Troup, engaged at Mohikinui in connection with the erection of the bridge there, was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon by a tree falling on him. He was brought into the District Hospital on Sunday, when Dr. Wright found that he had sustained severe wounds in the head, several fractured ribs, and internal injuries, Wu v,: ’ - -t»~» {«. S-L.l '. f; - Ihe Hmemoa U . ul ,u this morning, clearing the bar at 9.30. Although the morning soundings by the p.s Nile showed 4ft of hollow in the sea the Hinemoa did not touch. The depth in the river was 17ft 9;n at high water, and 20ft 2in on the bar. The steamer’s tow leads gave 15ft in the river.
