BOWLING.
A New Bowling Green". — At the Wellington Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon the adjonrned meeting to consider a resolution of the general Committee of the Club in favour of the construction of another green, was held, in the pavilion. There was a good attendance of. members. The President (Mr A. Scoullar)congratulated the Club on the largenumber of its members, and said it was evident the present green was insufficient to accommodate them all. The Committee therefore thought it was necessary to form another green on the ground already in tbeir occupation. The funds were on the right side, and with the help of a few subscriptions there would be sufficient to construct four rinks at a cost of about £9O, inclusive of an enlargement of the present pavilion. Mr K. Wilson (Treasurer) stated that on the 31st August, when the year ends, there would be, he ostimated, a credit balance of £ls to £2O. Part of this would bo required for dressing up the present green. During the present year the subscriptions had paid off an overdraft of £SO and about other £SO in permanent improvements and tools, beside ordinary maintenance ; and assuming that the present rell of 115 members were maintained, next year would probably end with a credit of £BO to the good, provided no other green were made. Mr J. Duthie'moved that the resolution of the Committee be agreed to. He said they might fairly anticipate £4O to the good at the end of next year, and provided £SO were subscribed the additional green, should be made. The resolution is to the following effect : —“ Subject to the approval of the Club, resolved that subscriptions be solicited from regular players for the extensiongof the Bowling Green.” Mr F. Fergus seconded this. He a rid the present green was quite insufficient to allow all the members to play regularly, as it would hold only 48, or at the utmost 56, out of a membership of 115. It was intended that the new green should be made keener than the present one, and be suitable, for matches. He knew there would be an accession of new members next year, and they should not be admitted unless there was room for them to play. Mr Maskell opposed the motion. He felt it was not right to spend money on a leasehold. He objected to- subscriptions, and thought debontures should be issued if the thing were to be done. Mr Crombie thought it right that playing members should pay, and not non-playing members, who seldom or never appeared on the green. After further discussion the motion was put and carried unanimously. The President, in replying to a vote of thinks, intimated that subscription lists were on the table, and in a few minutes 24 guineas were subscribed.
