Opera. Company. —Mr Martin Simonson, has recently organised an opera company, (now travelling in Tasmania) which is likely ' to pay a visit to New Zealand shortly. The company includes Misses Elsa May, Florence Seymour, and Julia Beaumont, Messrs Simonson, George Dean, Walsh, Ganior, England, aDd others, and play both grand and comic opera. Mr Bosco Wilson is its business manager.
Concert. —Avery successful concert was given at the Theatre Royal Wednesday in aid of the St. Patrick's College Brass Band fund. There was a large audience, the Theatre being crowded in every part. An excellent programmo. was performed, and it -was very much enjoyed by the audience. The programme submitted was as follows:—lnstrumental selection, “ Recollections of Donizetti ’’(Round), College Brass Band; parb song, “Iron founders” (Peai’son), choir; song, “ Twenty years ago ” (Sullivan', Mr E. J. Hill ; song, “ Kathleen Mavourneen ” (Crouch), Mrs Parsons, encored ; instrumental selection, “ Maritana ” (Wallace), College Orchestra ; song, “ Terence’s farewell to Kathleen ” (Lady Dufferin), Miss McClean, encored ; cornet solo, “ Minstrel boy,” Mr Ciraino ; recitation, “ The Reception,” Mr W. .T. Haybitble, encored ; comic song, “I took it,” Mr W. D. Lyon; instrumental selection, “Notre chero Alsace” (Kling), College Brass Band ; part-song; “Tramp o'er moss and fell,” with soprano solo (Bishop), choir ; song, “ Mistress Prue ” (Molloy), Mr E. L. Widdop ; song, “Shou d he upbraid ” (Bishop), Mrs Parsons ; selection, “The Bohemian girl ” (Balfe), College Orchestra; song, “Molly Asthore ” (L. Lavenu), Miss McCarthy ; pianoforte solo, “ Norma ” (Leybach), Alias O’Driscoll ; finale, “ God defend New Zealand” (Woods), Brass Band, Orchestra, and chorus. The orchestra was conducted by Mr Trowell and the brass baud by Mr Cimino, and the choruses by Mr Putnam, Aliss O’Driscoll played the accompaniments.
