ANOTHER, ESCAPE FROM GAOL.

(per press association.) Wanganui, April 30. A man named'Jackson, who was sentenced at tho Supreme Court to three years’ hard labour two days ago, escaped from gaol this afternoon. He was at work on the sand hills with the gang, when, taking advantage of the warder having his back turned, he jumped over the fence and ran toward the river. The w arder in charge fired his re', volver at him, but missed his aim. The man then went down to tho side of the river and taking his boots, and socks off swam across to the Maori settlement at Putiki. The police were immediately on' bis track, aud succeeded in re-arresting him abut two hours after his escape. Great credit is due to for their promptitude, and no blame is attached to the prison authorities, as the attempt by the prisoner was very daring.
