ACCLIMATISATION ALTERATIONS.
(per press association.) Christchurch, April 25. The Acclimatisation Society to-day decided to invite kindred societies to send delegates to the Conference to be held in Christchurch during May to suggest alterations in the Animals Protection Act. The following questions will be discussed : -Desirableness of altering the Animals Protection Act with a view of appointing a fixed day for the opening of the shooting season for both native and imported game, the day to be the same throughout the Colony, unalterable except by Act ol Parliament; the necessity for curtailing the shooting season for native game ; the desirableness of limiting the period during which native game may be sold ; of making it compulsory on licensed dealers to keep a record of the game purchased and the district from which it was obtained, and the names of persons by whom it was supplied ; the propriety of compelling a professional shooter, who sells native game to dealers, to pay a substantial license fee ; the desirableness of prohibiting shooting on Sundays ; the necessity for having a 10s gun license, with a view of ohecking poaching; the desirableness of having licenses for shooting and fishing issued by the secretaries of the various societies at least a fortnight before the respective seasons open.
