Flax is without any alteration since our last report. There is a steady demand still for all kinds of good sound fruit. The press telegram published in our local papers of late dates would lead New Zealand farmers and produce dealers to believe that there is a golden harvest in store for them in the requirements of New South Wales during the next twelve months, bnt we do not by any means pin our faith to this idea ; we rather feel inclined to believe there will be a steady demand for our produce for that colony, but nothing phenomenal. The Customs duties collected at the port of Welling! ou for the week ending Saturday amounted to £7528 16s Id. Beer duty, £l2O 16s 2d.

George Thomas and Co. report produce prices as follows :—The reported deficiency in the Australian whoat crop will no doubt have the effect of stiffening values in New Zealand, and we look forward to the present rates for flour remaining unaltered. Oats are offering somewhat freely from southern centres, principally clearances of the old grain. A good many samples of the new harvesting of exceptional quality are on the market from Blenheim and the Waiiarapa districts; the market is weak in tone, and quotations remain unsettled. In potatoes consumers derive their supplies almost entirely from the Hutt farmers, and therefore operations from outside sources are almost at a standstill; stocks locally are now becoming light, and importing will shortly be a matter of necessity. Oats rule from 2s 7d to 2s 9d ; oatmeal, £l4 ; oaten sheaf chaff, £4 5s to £4 10s ; straw do, £2 15s to £3 ; milling wheat, 3s 9d to 4s; fowls’ wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; roller £lO 15s ; stone process, £10; bran, £4 5s ; pollard, scarce £4 15s ; feed barley, 2s 9d to 3s ; pearl barley, £18 ; maize, 4s 4d ; feed peas, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; beans, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; split peas, £ls ; potatoes, £4 15s to £5 ; onions, £6 to £7 ; cooksfoot grass seed, 3d per lb ; rye grass, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; eggs, Is 3d ; cheese, 57$d to 6d ; bams and bacon, BJd ; honey, 4d to sd; salt butter, 8d ; fresh, 8d to 9d. Local fruits, principally pears, apples, and peaches, have occupied attention this week, and prices show an improved tone ; shipments from Australia are now becoming like ** angels’ visits.” Fowls at 2s 6d ; ducks, 3s ; turkeys, 7s ; and geese, ss, are neglected.
