The University Senate to day adopted the following leportnf the Committee appointed to consider the question of the encouragement of agricultural science in the public schools, as recommended by Professor Thomas :—“ The Committee are of opiniou that valuable knowledge of the rudiments of agricultural science can be imparted iu the primary schools if the teachers are properly instruo ed. Encouragement would be given to study by including in the standard regulations a syllabus for agri .-ulture instead of the mere mention of agrioulturalchemistry. Asau equivale t for the present syllabus of elementary science, further encouragement might be given by allowing candidates for teachers' certificates to take an examination in agricultural knowledge instead of the present examination in what is known as elementary science. Ic would be well for the Education Department to give publicity to the fact that for the purpose of teachers classification the B Sc. degree has the same weight as the B. A. degibe. The Committee recommend that a B.Sc. or B.A. whose course has iucluded certain subjects (which would have to be hereafter defined), or who submits to a further examination in such of these subjects as he has not already taken, should receive a certificate of theoretical agricultural knowledge. The Committee further recommend that if either of the colleges establish such a non graduate course in agriculture as the Senate cun approve of, arrangements could be made for the issue of certificates of such knowledge after-examination.” No change was recommended iu the University statutes iu respect of a musical course.
