If I Were a Voice.
If I were a voice, a persuasive voice, That could travel the wide world though, I’d fly on the wings of the morning light, I’d speak to men with a gentle might, I'd tell them to he true. I would fly ! I would fly o’er land and sea, Wherever a human heart may be, Telling a tale or singing a song, In praise of the right, in blamo of the wrong. If I were a voice, a convincing voice, That I could travel with the air. The homes of sorrow and guilt I’d seek, And kind and truthful words I’d speak, To save men from despair, I would fly, I would fly o’er tho crowded town, I would drop like a beautiful sunbeam down, Into the heartß of suffering men, I'd teach them to look up again. If I were a voice, a consoling voice, That could travel with 1 the wind,' Wherever I saw the'nations torn. By warfare, jealousy; spite or scorn, Or hatred of'their kind ‘ 1 11 I would fly ! I would fly on the thunder’s crash, And into their darkened bosoms flash, And all their evil'thoughts subdued, I’d teach them Christian Brotherhood.
