HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held in the Council’s office on Tuesday morning. There were present Councillors Wakeham (Chairman), Darby, Brown, Death, Speedy, Taylor, Lancaster, Barton and Monaghan. A letter wsb received from the Hutt Town Board, stating that they would pay the amount of their charitable aid contribution as soon as they had sufficient funds. The Inspector of Roads submitted his usual report as to the work carried out during the month, and suggested that several roads and bridges in the district should be repaired. He suggested that a new water tank should be secured for the toll-house, and also that the water should belaid on from the Wainuio-mata supply; and asked that permission should be given to call for tenders for the cartage required by the Council on the Hutt roads for the next twelve months. The report was adopted, and it was decided to call for tenders for the cutting of willows for three years, and for the supply of drain pipes as required. On the motionof Councillor Barton, seconded by Councillor Brown, it was decided that all owners of property fronting upon a road shall be liable for the cost of cutting down and clearing away any gorse that may be growing between their fence line and the centre of the road, and that the Inspector of Roads shall give the said owners notice to cut down and clear away such gorse. A communication was readfrom the Charitable Aid Board asking what amount the Council would require for ch-u-itable aid purposes. It was decided to reply Lhat the Council would require a sum of £SOO. A communication was read from the Government with reference to the unsanitary state of the Hutt-road, and after consideration it was decided, on the motion of Councillor

Darby, seconded by Councillor Speedy, that instructions should be given to the Inspector of Roads to write to Mr Pomfrey, proprietor of the glue factory, and inform him that unless the bad smells were at once abated the Council would take step 3 to have the factory removed. The Marine Department wrote asking the Council if they had any suggestions to make with regard to the Fisheries Bill proposad to be introduced next session. A committee - consisting of Councillors Speedy,. Darby, Barton, Taylor, and Death—wereappointed to consider the measure, and present a report at next meeting. Mr Death reported that he had appointed Mr H. Harris Dog Registrar and Tax Collector for the Horokiwi riding, at Is 3d per dog. It was decided to have certain fences cn the Ngauranga-road repaired, Messrs Garrett and Co. having undertaken to pay half the cost of the work. Accounts amounting to £948 9s 7d were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
