' The Wanaka, with the San Francisco mail, arrived at an early hour on Monday morning. The mails were delivered as usual. The visiting members of the Educational Institute went to the Hutt on Saturday last, and were entertained at a picnic at McNab’s gardens by the local representatives. The party, which consisted of between SO and 90 ladies and gentlemen, left town shortly after 10.30 a-m. in three of ■Cobb and Co.’s ’buses. They visited the Woollen Company’s works at Pitone en ■route, and the fine machinery and other ■plant belonging to the Company was much admired by the visiting delegates. Arrived ■at the gardens, the visitors sat down to an ■excellent lunch, after which tennis and other games were indulged in and much enjoyed, the afternoon paßsing very pleasantly. The party returned to town about 7 o’clock. Before separating, Mr J. Reid, one of the Southern representatives, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the local members for the manner in which they had been entertained, which was carried by acclamation.
