News was received by Inspector Thompson on MonoVw corning from Constable Mackyof Martin>r°ngh to the effect that the schooner Lizz.e Guy, bound from Oamaru to Auckland, i£ de “ wit k dour grain, was wrecked off the White Rock station on the East Coast Uat Saturday morning. The captain ( Jameff Stephens) and the cook were stated to have bees drowned, but the remainder of the crew were saved. A later telegram received by Inspector Thomson states that the point where schooner was wrecked was 40 miles from Maryborough, and that the road it was very rough. The Inspector directed Constable Macky to proceed to the seene of the wreck immediately, and to, if possible, get a Justice of the _ Peace to accompany him, so that inquests might be held and the bodies buried on the beach it being too far to bring them to Martinborough. Mr Thomson also wiredto the aoenta of the schooner in Auckland and Oamaru to inform them of the disaster. Th schooner was built of wood in New South Wales in 1871, and her dimensions are— Length, 89ffc 3in ; breadth, 19ft; depth, Bft 2in. She was owned by Mr James Craig, of Hokitika, and was last in Wellington on tho 7th October, on which date she sailed for Havelock and Oamaru. The vessel and cargo were in part, if not, wholly, insure . The New Zealand Insurance Company had a line of £125 on the hull. The cargo, ahipP od py Meek and Co,, was insured in the JNa- „
