WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL.

At the meeting of the City Council last night Councillor Seed was to move the following motions, of which he hacl given notice :•* That there be prepared and laid before this Council a nominal return of all persons holding appointments under and employed continuously by the Corpoiation, showing their respective offices or employments, together with, the salary or pay of each ; also, copies of their letters of appointment or other documents showing the terms and conditions on which each person is employed ; also, particulars in any case where an officer is employed on duties other than those he performs for the municipality, the amount of remuneration he receives for such extra duties, and the rate of pay he received from the Corporation before .and after his assumption of those duties.” “That there be laid before this Council the record map or plan on which the reticulation of the street drains of the city is. plotted, together with a sketch or description of the proposed drains which are intended I to comp'ete the drainage of the whole city, at a cost of £14,500.’ ” The Public Works Committee presented the following report at last night’s meeting of the Council :—The Committee beg to recommend—That a 6-inch water main be laid along Waterloo.qnay, from the Railway Wharf northward, for a distance of about 7 chains. That the footpath on the northern side of Buckle-street, from Tory-street to Cambridge-terrace, be laid down in asphalte for half its width. That the proposal to lay a drain in Constable-street (from Danielstreet to Riddiford-street) be not entertained at present. That a reply be sent to the Pitone Borough Council and the Kaiwhara Town Board, that the Council is unable to enter into an arrangement for ! supplying those bodieß with water until the electric light installation has been completed, and the quantity of water required for lighting purposes definitely ascertained. That the Invercargill Borough Council be informed, in reply to their circular, that this Council is not disposed to purchase the steam fire engine which they offer for sale. That consideration of the Mayor’s memorandum with reference to the proposed loan for drainage and other purposes be postponed till next meeting of this Committee. That consent be given to the right-of-way 34 feet wide over a portion, of section 455, Lambtonquay, as applied for by Messrs Buckley, Stafford, and Treadwell (E.’ W. Milis and Co. to Willeston). That with reference to olause 3 of this Committee's last report, the new stand for expresses be fixed at Hunterstreet extension instead of at Panama-street. That a stand for hackney carriages be Established on the western side of Lambton-quay, between Bowen-street and Charlotte-street. That the Inspector of Police be asked to take steps to enforce the provisions of the Police Offences Act, 1884, . relating to the regulation of vehicular traffic in the streets of the city. That the claim of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, for payment of cost of repairs to a drain on Lambtonquay, be not entertained That the request of Mr F. Stevens for payment of the cost of laying a drain across the -road at Oriental Bay, be not acceded to, there being a drain in Hay-street with which'Mr Stevens’ drain could have been connected. - That a quantity of dog collars be supplied to the Government for the Chatham Islands as requested. That a committee consisting of Councillors Seed, Muir, Willeston, and Williams be appointed to oonfer with a committee of the Harbour Board with reference to the preparation of specifications, &c., for the proposed new olock for . the General Poßt-office. That accounts amounting to £lO3 17s 6d be passed for payment.
