The R.M.S. ToDgariro, from London, via Plymouth and wav ports, arrived here shortly after 11 on Saturday night. The passage has been a very pleasant one, the usual amusements having been got np to while away the time, with the greatest success. The mails were sorted on Sunday and placed in the boxes, the Southern portion having been forwarded by the Wanaka. On the arrival of the Kanieri last night, says Saturday’s v Marlborough Times, a man named Robert S'dmmerville, hailing from Wellington, and a returned Mahakipawa digger, walked off the wharf into the river, the night beiQg singularly dark. The man managed to keep himself afloat until, by the aid of a rope, he was safely delivered on board the Bteamer. Had he fallen on board the Kanieri the consequences would most likely have proved serious. Fortunately no injury was sustained further than the dropping of £1 18s, which the man withdrew in the attempt to release his hand from his pocket in which at the moment it was thrust.
