WANGANUI NEWS.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wanganui, August 5. Mr MsCallum, tb.o dairy export, has reached Wanganui, and proposes to spend a few days in this lacality, visiting the farmers, &c. Mokau Jones’ Commission was to have examined Mr Bryce to-day, but Mr Bryce was away at Feilding. It is anticipated that the Commission will have to follow him there.

The Gienelg takes away a large consignment of horses for India to-night, purchased by Major Walmsley for tho Auckland Stud Company. ' Wanganui, August S.

At the annual mooting of the Cricket Club last night the captain of the Club reported that Mr W. Alexander had decided to give a £2O cup for competition by olubs on the Coast ; and it was decided to form a Union to compote for it. “ Hans the Boatman ” opened to n very good house last night, and refused money at the doors to-night. Mokau Jones was in town to-day on his way to Wellington. Ho tells me he iB anxious that the Commission, before reporting to Parliament, should hear his side of the story and his witnesses. He seems satisfied so far with the evidence, as it docs not bear out tho assertions of malpractice on his part. The Commission is now sitting at taking Mr Bryce’s evidence. The Oddfellows held their annual banquet last night. One of tho speakers stated that the total value of tho lodge now was £4680. Harry Dunn, tho wrestler, is in town today, and states that in the event of tile match coming off now being arranged between Itobartson, tho half-castc, of Canterbury, and himself, which is on the tapis, he will try and get it off here in the place of Christchurch.
