TAKEN FOR A DYNAMITER

The , following, - extracts from a diary which is being kept by Bishop Cowie, of Auckland, during his visit to England will be read with interest:—“March 14.—We - had the pleasure of receiving lette'rs from many dear friends in Auckland. In the afternoonT went to the 1.15 service in St.Paul’s Cathedral. There was a congregation of about 300 persons—the majority city - men —under the dome. Canon Body, Missioner c»f Durham, was giving a course of Christian addresses. . . . . From St ""Paul’s we went to the new Law Court. At the entrance I was stopped by a policeman, who evidently took us for dynamiters, for seeing my All Saints’ bag in my hand, he said, * I must see inside that bag before yuu enter.’ 1 laughed, and opened it, and all there was to -be seen was a life-like diawing, by,/Mr Walsh, just received, of Mrs Cowie and myself on our horses in a gale of wiud and rain going over the Tara Hill.

On entering the Abbey I was again challenged by a policeman to exhibit the contents of my All Saints’ bag. “ What,” I said, “would you pry into a bishop’s robe bag ?” This evidently only made matters worse, for the man at once looked at niy legs, which were ungaitered as usual; but when a small Prayer Book was seen to be the only contents of the bag, he smiled and said respectfully, ‘ We cannot make any difference, my Lord.’ It was a bright warm morning.
