March 23.

I am glad to be able to report that the result of tho accident to Mr Buick is not so serious as at first anticipated, although he is still in a terribly wenkstate, and it is impossible to ascertain the full extent of his injuries. Owing to the discontinuance of the Government subsidy, the local library members have decided to charge a small fee for the use of tho reading-room. About forty members of the Palmerston Rifle Volunteers will attend the Wanganui Easter encampment. Messrs Stevens and Gorton are sending Home 250 sacks of tall fescue seed. A boot factory is about to be started in Palmerston.

Messrs Warnock, Kelly, and Adkin, of Wellington, have opened a branch establishment here.

The local footballers are endeavoring to arrange matches with the Poneke and Athletic Clubs of Wellington. March 26.

The members of the Manawatu Club intend holding a ball here on the 12th proximo, tho proceeds to go toward the Norsewood Relief Fund.

Mr R. Ayrt-s, of Wellington, who intends residing hero, is having a house built near the centre of the town. It is stated that a Christchurch drapery firm intend opening a branch in Palmerston.

Messrs Warnock, Kelly, and Adkin opened here on Saturday, and tho shop was thronged throughout the day aad evening.

[By Telegraph.] Palmerston North, Maroh 27. A writ is being served on the Palmerston Borough Council by Mr Milverton, for £250 damages, caused to his land by the overflow of water, Mr Skerrett has been retained for the plaintiff, and the case will be tried at the Wanganui Supreme Court, A similar action was tried here at the District Court, and resulted iu favor of the Council.
