A very heavv sou’ wester has been blowing all the morning, considerable damage being done to windows and trees. Tho Tramway Company’s stables {brick, with iron roof) were wreoked at 5 minutes to 12. The front was blown in, and several sheets of iron stripped off the roof. No one was hurt. Detective R. Neill has arrested a man named Robert Cooper, on suspicion of being concerned in the robbery of £4O from the Dunedin Coffee Palace on 21st March.

The Hospital Board have voted £IOOO toward the expense of a Lock Hospital. The Selwyn County Council ha 3 decided to make a special rate to provide for hospital and charitable aid expenditure. The amount will be fixed at a special meoting. There are 14 charges against 15 prisoners for the criminal sitting at the Supreme Court, which begins on Monday, besides the Rakaia murder case. The man lost from the s.s. Staffa during the storm was McLellan, the engineer, residing at Hokianga, who was washed overboard.

The prize fight between Laing and Matthews takes place to-morrow afternoon. Oamaru, March 28. Frederick Palmer, 36 years of age, a laborer, cut his throat early this morning. He had suffered much from neuralgia recently. An inquest was held this afternoon.
