The Harbor Board matters which have occupied such a large share of public attention ever : since Sir Julius, made the Westport Harbor Act 1 one of his policy Bills iu JSS4, have reached an: interesting stage toProm previous telegrams it will have been gathered that consequent upon • the report of a special Parliamentary Committee last session, and immediately after the recent visit of Mr Mitehelson here, the Government sent a letter |to the Board requesting the members to resign- Th s intimation was at first hailed with expressed delight, aud they resolved to assist the Government in their proposal .to appoint; a board of 'Government .officers, but then a change came over their feelings, and a long letter was approved protesting against the action of Government and refusing to resign. The answer to this was received last night in the shape of a telegram.from Mr K. Mitehelson, -regretting thedecisibii of the Board,,.;oS it would come to the apparent discourtesy of removing the members by, Gazette, and concluding with -‘an intimation that anyhow the new Boards for both places—Westport anu Grcymoutb—would be gazetted on SaturdayOne of. the,members' (Mr Hughes) resigned, but at the meeting.this afternoon the remainder of the- members resolved to inform Uovernment that they declined to assist in anyr thing that would nullify the Westport Harbor Act: of ISB4. , Therefore the present Board will be dismissed to-morrow; and the new members, who are expected to be chiefly officers of the Public Works De artment, .will be appointed.
