DEATH OF MR. J WILLIAMSON, M.L.C.

Mr J. Williamson suffered from valvular disease of the heart, which caused his death. Deceased was a native of Belfast, Ireland, and was bom in 18.14, and- came to the Colony in 1840. He entered into business with the late Mr. Crummer, During the Waikato war, Mr Williamson, in conjunction with the late W, F. Buckland and J. S. Macfarlane, entered into extensive commissariat contracts, which turned out a success. About ten years ago he bought the Pah Estate from Thomas Russell, and since then has resided there. He was one of the original founders of the Bank of New Zealand an f the New Zealand Insurance Company. He also Took a great interest in the Loan and Mercantile Agency, in which he was a large shareholder. Of the two former he had .been the leading Director for many years; and filled the office of Chairman of Directors in the Bank. He sat in the General AsseiriWy for City West from 1862 to 1866, and in 1870 took his seat in the Legislative Council.
