Messrs Baker Bros., acting on behalf of tt* trustees of the late Hon John Johnston, have offered to the Hospital Trustees sufficient land to form another approach to the Hospital from Revans-street, known as Rid-diford-street. If an entrance from that quarter were made it would confer a boon on the f Newtown district and the community as a whole. In the event of accident happening anywhere south of the Hospital it would save traversing the long distance of the road and! winding approach now existing, and would save the hill. It would also be shorter and easier when approaching from Te Aro by tram, which would be a great consideration to ladies especially, particularly in wet weather, as approaching from Revans-street there would be only the depth of an acre to walk before the Hospital were reached. In- the yearly list of London charities whufh has just been published, it appears that their total income in ISS7 was four millions and a half of money. Of this vast sum, no less than a million is spent on Foreign Missions.
