THE VOLUNTEERS.
The City Rifles added another victory to their record on Saturday, when its team of eight defeated the Kaiwhara .Rifles on the Kaiwhara range by 23 points. The conditions of the match were 204 and 500 yards, seven snots at each range ; Wimbledon targets ; any position. The range was somewhat strange to our City corps, the high position of the targets above the firing points being most objectionable, but notwithstanding, some very good shooting was made. Lieutenant Davis, of the Kaiwhara Rifles, was the highest scorer on the losing side with 56, Sergeant Coleman being second with 53. For the winners, Privates F. Moore and Wilson made 53 each, and it is worthy of note that Private Wilson has either made the highest score or tied for first place four times consecutively. At 200yds both teams averaged over 26 points a man, the City Rifles making 212, of which Corporal Jaokson and Private Wilson contributed 30 and 29 respectively. Kaiwhara Rifles, 210; Sergeant Coleman being the highest scorer with 29. At 500yds the city team scored 159, as against 138 made by the country team. The very cred-.table score of 29 made by Lieut. Davis at 500yds was loudly applauded. Out of 11 matches fired this season the City Rifles have won 9and lost 2. The following is a complete score list : City Rifles—Private F. Moore, 53 ; Private J. Wilson, 53 ; Corporal Hansen, 47; Corporal Jackson, 47 ; Captain Collins, 46 ; Color-Sergeant Davis, 46 ; Lance-Corporal Guise, 43; Sergeant Madeley, 36. Total, 371.
