During the storm of last Friday a peculiar phenomenon was observed in Cambridgeterrace. About 6.45 a vivid flash of lightning illuminated the whole of that part of the town, and it was seen that the electrical fluid struck the tram rails at the oorner of Vivian-street, and appeared to travel along the rails for some yards, throwing out showers of brilliant sparks, which were reflected in the water lying alongside the rails. The effect was a most peculiar one ; the display of light playing along the rails and water was weird beyond description. The adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of Walter Freeman, caterer, which was to have been held on Saturday, lapsed for want of a quorum. The debtor’s statement sets forth that when he left the Island Bay Hotel he had a little money in the bank, with which he bought a farm at Berhampore, but subsequently had to sell at a loss. He also lost £l3O on booths at the Hutt races. He has now a refreshment car ou the Manawatu Railway line, but states that it only brings him in a bare living.
