(united press association.) Christchurch, December 2b. The bicycle races at Lancaster Park, were attended by 5000 persons. The racing, was very interesting owing to the presence ot Fred Wood, the professional champion rider of the world. He engaged in a series of teat races of one, five, and ten miles for Prizes aggregating (£IOO. The five-mile and first heats of tho one-mile were decided to-day. In the first heat of the mile .Wood met N. Hall (Pioneers), J. Howlison (Dunedin), Handyside (Waitemata), Charlesworth (Christchurch), Barlow (Rangiora). second, Steadman (Dnnedin), third. Brown, an English rider, was nowhere. Time, 2min 59sec. In the five-mile race, Wood was first, Wilmott second, Handysides third, Kerr (Dunedin) fourth, Barlow (fifth). Brown sixth. Hall, Charlesworth, and Howard (Waitemata) also started. Hsll, Wood, and Wilmott in this order ran together until 300vds from the postWood then spurted past Hall, who. in endeavoring to respond, missed his pedal and fell heavily, dislocating his wrist. Wood won by 40yds from Willmott, the others a long way behind. Time—l6min 52 2-5 secs. The ten-mile Handicap Race was won by Steadman (400yds) 1; North (400yds) 2 ; N. F. Hall (700yds) 3. Time—34min 3lseo. The Ladies’ Bracelet resulted in a dead heat between Handyside and N. F. Hall. It will be run off to-m’rrow. In the halfmile race Steadman and Bean came into collision. Both received severe cuts about the face, but no more serious injuries. Christchurch, December 27. Three thousand people attended the bicycle races at Lancaster Park. In the final heat of the One Mile Champion Test Race, Wood was first; Wilmott (North Canterbury) 2 ; Handysides (Waitemata) 3 ; Steadman (Dunedin) 4. Wood shot to the front 300 yards from home, and ran home the easiest of winners by half-a-dozen yards; Handysides, 15 yards away, beat Steadman by 50 yards for the third place. Time—3min Ten Mile Champion Test Race was won by Wood ; »' Wilmott, 2 ; Brown, 3 ; Handysides, 4 ; Barlow (North Canterbury) 5 ; Kerr (Dunedin) 6. AVood, Brown, Wilmott, and Handysides led alternately till 300 yards from borne, when Wood took the lead, and won a splendid race by three yards. Time — 33min 15 2-ssec. The Champion test races resulted in AVood being first and Wilmott second.
