The decaying value of Scotch sporting property was abundantly manifested in the London Auction Mart recently. The estate of Benmoie, in Argyleshire, was purchased a number of years ago by a wealthy sugar refiner for £200,000, and the other day the highest bid was short by £IO,OOO of the half of that sum. The property was bought in. The deer forest of Fannich, said to be the oldest in Scotland, was also bought in, the utterly inadequate figure of £44,000 being all that any purchaser was disposed to offer. Twenty years ago there would have been keen competition for the possession of these‘attractive properties. The Baptists of the United States, Northern aud Southern, gave last year 1,677,706 dol. for home and foreign missions. For education and other purposes the contributions amounted to 1,914.442d015., and for chinch support 4,924,553d015., making a grand total of 5,510,701 dols., by over 2,700,000 members.
