LADIES GHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

The Wellington Ladies Christian Association held their annual meeting on Friday, the 22nd inst. There was a good attendance about 40 members being present, and Mrs I. T. Hart, president, was in the chair. The annual report was read and adopted on the motion of Mrs Habens seconded by Mrs Fitzgerald. It stated that the Committee had relieved about 300 cases during the year. Good work had been done by Mrs Roberts the Bible woman. The Misses Wilkinson, Costall, Duthie, Toomath, Skinner, Luff and Gardner had collected her salary. Forty one meetings of the Dorcaß Society had been held and the membership numbers 27. As many as 365 garments, and 41 quilts had been made and 28 garments had been made by Miss Fitzgerald and a few young ladies from the high school during the holidays. The Shoe Club numbered 30 members, who have in hand £35 7s lOd. The Newtown Mission had been conducted by Mrs Boxall, and the Molesworth St. Mission, by Mrs Dumbell. There are 21 names on the roll of the Molesworth-street Mission. Mesdames Wright, Galway, and Petherick had conducted the Webb St. Mission, which numbers 22 members. The Committee regretted deeply that their efforts for the good of the young women of the city had not been so successful as might have been expected. The Girls’ Club had fallen through, and the room is only open for members 'of the Association at their meetings. The Gaol had been visited as formerly, with satisfactory results. The Committe had to thank Mr Robt. Parker for having got up the ‘ Messiah ’ for the benefit of the Association, also to Mrs Boxall and other ladies who had shown so much devotedness to the work, and to the Tiustees of the Benevolent Institution for their uniform courtesy. During the year Mrs Pilcher, who had taken a prominent part since the foundation of the Association, had been lost to them. The balance sheet showed that the sum of £l2 8s 7d is to the credit ot the Association. The report of the Alexandra Home was presented and adopted on the motion of Mrs Boxall seconded by Mrs Kemp. The balance sheet of the Home showed £l5O to credit. The following are the office bearers for the eDSUing year : General managing committee: Mesdames Hart (president), Fitzgerald (vicepresident) Willis Bull (secretary), Inness (treasurer), Boxall, Drew, Galway, Hall, Kemp, Phillips, Pilcher, J. Smith, Gardner, Waters, Wright, Purdie, and Miss Caverhill. Committee Alexandra Home: Mrs Habens (president), Miss E. Greenwood (secretary), Mesdames Drew (treasurer), Jervois, Bennett, Grady, Inness, Kebbel, Fitzgerald, Pilcher, Stock, and B. Smith. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Hart and Miss Greenwood.
